Abstract

With China’s deepening opening-up, its publicity translation has become increasingly important. Official English translations are essential for conveying China’s policies to the world. This paper emphasizes foreignization in publicity translation, following Lawrence Venuti’s foreignization and domestication theory. Foreignization helps preserve cultural uniqueness, especially in the context of globalization, where authentic cultural expression is valued. Using Chinese president Xi Jinping’s 2025 New Year message as a case study, the paper examines the role of foreignization and domestication in translation, arguing that foreignization strengthens China’s cultural influence.
