The awareness of students in the Faculties of Science and Information Technology regarding the importance of studying mathematics in serving the local community

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the level of awareness among students of the Faculties of Science and Information Technology regarding the importance of studying mathematics in serving the local community, as well as the extent to which the mathematical concepts they learn during their university studies are connected to their daily lives, local community problems, and solutions to these problems. The study adopted a descriptive approach, and a questionnaire was designed to collect data from the study population. The questionnaire included several sections: general student information, awareness of the importance of mathematics, attitudes and practical behavior, and obstacles and challenges. The study sample consisted of 178 students from the Faculties of Science (Mathematics and Chemistry majors) and Information Technology (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Networking Systems, and Information Security majors).
